United Way of South Central Illinois and GenFed Partner in

Stuff the Bus Bash

Annual program nearing completion as area schools resume prep to classes

Mt. Vernon, IL – July 26, 2021 – United Way of South Central Illinois and GenFed Financial will once again partner for their annual Stuff the Bus Bash on Friday, July 30th from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Individuals are encouraged to stop by GenFed located at 800 S. 42nd Street and drop off school supplies or monetary donations to help Stuff the Bus for Jefferson County students.

“We are doing a Stuff the Bus Blitz this year,” stated UWSCI president Angela Schrum. “Our United Way works with the Regional Office of Education to make school supplies and funds available to replenish supplies available to area schools. This is particularly important later in the school year when the supplies students get through other supply programs for back-to-school start to run out.”

Those dropping off school supplies will receive a ticket to register for a chance to win free prizes sponsored by GenFed, which include an Apple Watch and kid’s bike.  Free popcorn and soda will be available as well.

The United Way of South Central Illinois Stuff the Bus program has been providing Jefferson County school children with supplies since 2008. Donations of supplies and cash are still needed for 2021. If you can't make it to the Bash or can't get out to purchase supplies, donations can be made online at www.uwsci.org. Click on the Stuff the Bus link and you will be able to make a secure donation of any size. Additionally, donation banks can be found at Community First Bank, Peoples National Bank, First Mid Bank & Trust, GenFed Credit Union, Legence Bank and Kaskaskia Credit Union. Supply boxes for donations are located at Tri-County, Williamson Home, Staples and Nu Bowl Lanes.

United Way of South Central Illinois serves 32 zip codes in 8 counties including Edwards, Jefferson, Hamilton, Clinton, Marion, Wabash, Wayne and Washington counties.. In addition to funding non-profit service agencies in all 8 counties, UWSCI supports several community impact programs including the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and Illinois 2-1-1.
