Hunters for the Hungry

Hunters for the Hungry turns a successful hunt into meals for local families.

 

Through a partnership between United Way of South Central Illinois and University of Illinois Extension, hunters donate legally harvested deer for professional processing. The venison is then distributed through local food pantries, putting high-quality protein on tables throughout our community.

 

LOCAL IMPACT

During our recent collection, hunters donated 20 deer. Those donations produced approximately 800 pounds of ground venison, which was shared through six local food pantries—enough to help provide more than 1,000 meals.

 

HOW IT WORKS

Hunters donate eligible deer at participating collection or processing locations. Community partners coordinate processing, packaging and delivery so pantry partners receive safe, ready-to-distribute ground venison.

 

GET INVOLVED

Hunters can donate a deer. Processors and sponsors can help cover processing costs. Food pantries can help distribute the venison, and volunteers can assist with coordination and delivery.
