Every classroom deserves books that make children want to turn the next page. Through United Way Readers, local teachers can request books chosen with their students in mind. We fill those requests with donated and purchased books, helping teachers build classroom libraries their students will love.

At the heart of the program is Sarita’s Library, named in memory of Sarita L. Kimble. Sarita was a dedicated United Way volunteer who cared for the Readers library and helped put books into teachers’ hands. She gave her time to make sure children in our community had more opportunities to read, learn and imagine. Naming the library for her honors the work she did and the kindness she brought to it.

Teachers may request books by emailing readers@uwsci.org.

You can help keep classroom libraries growing by donating used books at United Way, 716 Main Street, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864, or purchasing requested books through our Amazon storefront below.
