United Way of South Central Illinois is partnering with Midwest Food Bank to create the United Midwest Food Hub—a regional distribution point serving pantry partners throughout southeastern Illinois.

 

Here is how it works: Midwest Food Bank delivers food to United Way’s centrally located 6,000+ square-foot facility. Volunteers sort the delivery by pantry. Partner pantries arrive during scheduled pickup windows and carry the food back to their own communities.

 

The result is practical and immediate: more reliable food inventory, fewer long-distance trips to Bloomington-Normal, lower fuel and vehicle costs, and more volunteer time focused on serving neighbors.

 

The Food Hub is a distribution center for participating food pantries, not a public food-distribution site. Residents looking for food assistance should contact a local pantry or dial 211 to be connected with nearby help.

 

Monthly distributions will continue through 2027. Food pantries that want to participate must contact Midwest Food Bank. Volunteers and sponsors can contact United Way at 618.242.8000 or nat@uwsci.org.
